September 21, 2012 — The acclaimed documentary “Bitter Seeds” opens Oct. 5 at the Roxie Theater. Directed by Micha X. Peled, the film depicts the horror of farmer suicides in India following their financial ruin as they are unable to afford genetically modified seeds from Monsanto and other multinational corporations. The film had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival last year, and has since gone on to win numerous awards including the Oxfam Global Justice Award. “‘Bitter Seeds’ raises critical questions about the human cost of genetically modified agriculture and how we will grow things in the future,” said a spokesperson.
