No, this is a pathway to killing people that doctors deem worthless' and '3000 doctors putting patients on death lists that single them out to be allowed to die' published in the Daily Mail. As a Specialist Registrar training in Elderly Medicine and a terminally ill cancer patient myself I have strong views on these issues both personally and professionally.

The first duty of Parliament is to protect its citizens. Elder abuse and neglect by families, carers and institutions is real and dangerous and a law allowing the active ending of life could be so easily exploited and abused. This is why strong laws are necessary.

Swiss study shows psychological distress of assisted suicide helpers

A study by the University of Zurich has shown that a quarter of people who accompany someone to commit assisted suicide suffer serious psychological distress. The results are available in the October issue of the Journal European Psychiatry.
