Homilies

Lifeissues is mainly concerned with publishing thoughtful articles directly related to issues raised in Evangelium Vitae. However, from the very beginning, we have also published a few related homilies, notably by Fr. Al Cariño, O.M.I., Fr. Tony Pueyo, and others.

Please use the pulldowns below to select a homily by Liturgical Calendar date.

New! Do Not Be Afraid
Ordinary Sunday A-12

Al Carino
Jesus challenges us to stand by our beliefs even when it is disadvantageous and risky to do so. For example, we all say that we want to live in a community where justice and peace reign supreme. Yet when we witness a crime, say, drug pushing, are we willing to testify so that justice will be served? More often than not, the answer is no. And this because appearing in court may take much of our time or we fear that we will be the object of harassments or threats from the suspect or his family. If we all behave this way then we can bid goodbye to peace and order in our community. Then we can never become the light of the world that we are called to be.

New! Feed Your Soul

Antonio P. Pueyo
In the depths of our being, our longings are for eternity. We make promises to love forever. Our desires seem to be insatiable. Our thoughts have no boundaries. In these tendencies to look beyond time and the here and now, we see the road signs to eternity. Something in us makes us long for eternity. It is our soul. Its home is in the heart of God. As St. Augustine said, "You have made us for yourself O Lord and our hearts are restless until they rest in you."
