The evening of Jesus' first apparition to His disciples was characterized by gift–giving — on Jesus' part. The gifts were many and diverse. First, Jesus gave the disciples the life of the Spirit.
How can we experience the Risen Lord? Will He appear to us like He did to the two disciples at Emmaus? Will He pass through close doors and show us His hands and side? Will we see the Lord in a vision like St. Faustina who saw the Lord as Divine Mercy?
The Apostles found both support and suffered opposition from their own and from strangers, the help and the persecutions they endured, the hatred and the love they received from friends and enemies, the imprisonment and exoneration they received from various courts of law, the plots they avoided, the amazing interventions of the Holy Spirit in their conversions.
