Sexually Transmitted Diseases are diseases which require direct contact to spread from one person to another because the organisms survive poorly outside the human body. Medical research shows that STD are mostly transmitted by sexual contact. Over 40 STD infections exsist. It is important to realise that the unborn child may become infected either in the womb or during birth and congenitally and perinatally acquired infections can be serious.
