A Pro-Life Semantics Guide

Dear Friend,

Those who govern the culture's language govern the culture. Why so? Because words shape ideas and form the way people think. Put simply, words teach. Unfortunately, those who govern the language today are the mass media in America who are enemy #1 of vulnerable human life. Their semantics are why so many have come to think that killing itself is a human "right."

At least five different terms exist in the media's lexicon for killing, such as abortion "rights", "right" to the body, "right" to choose, women's "rights", privacy "rights", and reproductive "rights." At the same time, the most fundamental right of all, to life itself is censored by them, erasing it from public thought. Pope John Paul, spoke on this grave moral evil in the The Gospel of Life encyclical.

"The moral conscience, both individual and social, is today subjected, also as a result of the penetrating influence of the media, to an extremely serious and mortal danger: that of confusion between good and evil precisely in relation to the fundamental right to life....." #24.

Friend, the culture war is largely a war of words and no one fights it better than the media elite. Better than anyone they know that if you want to change the way people think, just change the words. As verbal engineering has preceded today's abortion culture, honest vocabulary is vital to restore life's protection. The following analysis explains a few of their deceptions and how they market the "culture of death." Honest phrasing is given to restore life's dignity.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- Abortion "clinic"

Honest Vocabulary -- Abortion site

Clinics are for health care and health care excludes killing. Calling the place where someone is killed a "clinic" assaults the dignity of the one who is killed. Instead, the places where unborn people are killed are abortion sites, child killing sites, abortion chambers, abortion mills, and abortuaries. Proper phrasing disconnects killing from health care and instills sensitivity for the lives of unborn people.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- Abortion "debate"/"issue"

Honest Vocabulary -- Abortion problem

Murder is not an issue or debate because life is a human right. As a human right a moral duty exists to defend it, even by those who advocate its destruction. The term abortion problem is correct wording because it is the problem of murder itself.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- Abortion "rights"

Honest Vocabulary -- Killing children

Killing can never be a human right and calling it such can never make it so. Instead, it's like calling a wolf a sheep to gain acceptance of the wolf and epitomizes the prophets words - Woe to you that call evil good, and good evil: that put darkness for light, and light for darkness: that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter. Is.5:20. No one who calls abortion a "right" would want to have been aborted them self, which demonstrates the hypocrisy. Killing unborn children is the correct term.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Anti-abortion"

Honest Vocabulary -- Right to Life

"Anti-abortion" is a media tag applied to pro-life people. It is not a good term for pro-lifers to be calling themselves, not because it isn't true but because its negative and awkward terminology. Pro-life and Right to Life are positive expressions that better promote the cause of life.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Biased" reporting

Honest Vocabulary -- Dishonest reporting

Often it's heard that the media's abortion coverage is "biased," so what is needed is "balance." This concept is not strong enough however, so neither are the words. Why? Because bias and balance infer the subjective. Implied are that two valid sides exist, but one isn't being sufficiently covered. This is not the case. In the case of killing there is no other valid side. Such a case needs to be correctly presented. On racism, the media presents it as wrong. Trent Lott and Jimmy the Greek are examples. Like racism, and more profoundly so, killing is wrong. Therefore, it must be presented that way to be objective. In any other context it's dishonest journalism.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Choice"

Honest Vocabulary -- It's a child not a choice

Human rights are unalienable because they are God given. Thus, they don't fall into the category of another person's choice. Expressing life as a choice, such as "pro-choice," "choose life," and "let us help with your choice," present life in a subjective and thus errant context. Proper uses for the word choice are; it's a child not a choice and some choices are wrong.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Contraceptive"

Honest Vocabulary -- Abortive/contraceptive

Contraceptive needs to be in quotes when the reference is to hormonal drugs such as the "pill," injections and patches, since these also cause abortion. As the overriding harm is abortion, it needs to be the primary qualifier. The proper term is abortive/contraceptive.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Controversy/Issue/Debate"

Honest Vocabulary -- Moral Evil

The media presents intrinsic evils as "issues", "debate" and "controversy" so these will be seen only as opinion, instead of evil. Since murder is intrinsically evil it needs to be described that way - be it abortion, euthanasia or any other form.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Crisis pregnancy"

Honest Vocabulary -- Pregnant Women in a Crisis

The term "crisis pregnancy" reinforces the very thought that needs to be removed in a pregnant woman's mind. The new life created is not the crisis. Instead, her situation is. Since the pregnant woman wants to abort her "crisis," it's imperative this word not be connected to her pregnancy. Pregnant women in crisis situations, is proper phrasing. The loving places where women are helped are pregnancy resource centers (PRC's) or pregnancy assistance centers for women in a crisis (PAC's). A big difference exists.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Doctor"

Honest Vocabulary -- Abortionist

Calling an abortionist a doctor is an oxymoron since doctors save life and abortionists take it. Calling them "doctors," hides what they actually do. The Hippocratic Oath states: "I will give no deadly medicine if asked, nor any such counsel; furthermore, I will not give to a woman an instrument to produce abortion." In reality, abortionists are paid assassins who aren't acting as doctors when they commit murder. The correct qualifier is murderer of unborn children or abortionist.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Extremists"

Honest Vocabulary -- Human Rights Advocates

Pro-life people are disparaged by the media when called "extremists." In reality, the most extreme act of all is killing while the most central act of human good is defending life. Those who defend life from its abusers are Child Protection Advocates and Human Rights Champions who are the farthest thing away from extremist.

This again from John Paul II:

The Second Vatican Council defines abortion, together with infanticide, as an "unspeakable crime." But today in many people's consciences, the perception of its gravity has become progressively obscured. The acceptance of abortion in the popular mind, in behavior and in law itself, is a telling sign of an extremely dangerous crisis of the moral sense, which is becoming more and more incapable of distinguishing between good and evil, even when the fundamental right to life is at stake. Given such a grave situation, we need now more than ever to look truth in the eye and to call things be their proper name, without yielding to convenient compromise or to the temptation of self-deception. In this regard the reproach of the Prophet is extremely straightforward: "Woe to you who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness" (Is 5:20)...... But no word has the power to change the reality of things: procured abortion is the deliberate and direct killing, by whatever means it is carried out, of a human being in the initial phase of his or her existence, extending from conception to birth. The moral gravity of procured abortion is apparent in all its truth if we recognize that we are dealing with murder and, in particular, when we consider the specific elements involved. The Gospel of Life # 58.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Feminist"

Honest Vocabulary -- Abortion advocates

"Feminist" is a word that abortion advocates use to promote abortion. Genuine feminists don't kill children nor do real men suggest it. The proper term is abortion advocate or advocate of child killing.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Fetus"

Honest Vocabulary -- Unborn child

Fetus is a physiological term devoid of human character. The media use it as the "n" word for unborn children because it diverts thought from their humanity. Every mammal is a fetus before birth but only a human is an unborn child. The proper term is unborn child.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Give your baby life"

Honest Vocabulary -- Give your baby love

"Give your baby life" is incorrect because it infers that life does not yet exist. Inferring that life doesn't yet exist can cause pregnant women to think abortion is not yet taking life. Once life is given, it cannot be given again by rejecting abortion. Give your baby love conveys the love needed for the child in the womb.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Health care" for women

Honest Vocabulary -- Sterilization, abortion

Altering a woman's physiology to render her sterile or killing her unborn child have nothing to do with healing or physical health. Since these are not health care in a genuine sense honest terms are sterilization and abortion (or child killing).

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Legal" abortion

Honest Vocabulary -- Sanctioned abortion

St. Augustine said, "Every law made by man can be called a law insofar as it derives from the natural law. But if it is somehow opposed to the natural law, then it is not really a law but a corruption of law." Nothing could be more the case than "laws" that protect abortion. As such, they are not really laws but corruption of law. Government protected abortion, protected child killing, and sanctioned abortion are correct.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Moderates"

Honest Vocabulary -- Child-killing extremists

The word "moderate" is a media tag applied to people (usually Republicans) who support government sanctioned abortion. Children murdered chemically by salt poison, have their brains suctioned from their heads or are ripped limb from limb, reveals an unspeakable heartlessness. Incredible as it is, the media presents people who support it as normal with this descriptive. In reality, the true extremists are the media elite since killing is the most extreme act of all and they are the force protecting it. Child-killing extremists describes abortion supporters. Many of them run the mass media.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Patient"

Honest Vocabulary -- Abortion bound woman

A patient is someone in need of health care. Since killing is not health care, an abortion bound woman is not a patient. Proper phrasing is abortion bound women.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Perform" abortion

Honest Vocabulary -- Commit abortion

Perform generally denotes a positive. There is nothing positive about murder. Instead, it's an evil act. Evil acts are committed. Nothing is more evil than murder.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- Privacy "rights"

Honest Vocabulary -- Protected child killing

Privacy "rights" is a pretend term which hides the act of murder. Needless to say, every murderer would want the murder they commit to be private. Since murder is not a privacy right the correct term is protected child killing.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Pro-choice"

Honest Vocabulary -- Child killing advocate

"Pro-choice" is a euphemism that hides the act of killing. Since killing children is not a licit choice, the correct term is child killing advocate.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Reproductive rights"

Honest Vocabulary -- Killing children

In his book 1984, George Orwell called the governments propaganda department the Ministry of Truth. The Ministry of Truth was used to spread government lies. It declared that "war is peace" and "hate is love." In our world, the current day "Ministry of Truth," is big media. To them the righteous are wrong, "pro-choice" is pro-child, a woman's wrong is a "woman's right," and "reproductive rights" end reproduction. When it comes to abortion, objective means dishonest in the media world.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Right" to the body

Honest Vocabulary -- Killing children

Everyone knows their own body existed before birth. This includes pregnant mothers, every man and woman who advocates abortion as well as people in the media. Those concerned with their bodies would not want them aborted. Therefore, right to the body, begins before birth. When used with abortion the word "right" is an oxymoron. In this sense there is no such thing as "right" to the body. Again, this term means killing children.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Right" to choose

Honest Vocabulary -- Killing children

"To choose" is an action verb. Without an object attached to an action verb its meaning is incomplete and therefore grammatically incorrect. Once an object is attached, the meaning is made complete and one can tell if a genuine right exists. For example, no one has a "right to throw" when it's rocks or knives they would be throwing at others. The same is true of killing children.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Unplanned children"

Honest Vocabulary -- Children conceived in undesirable situations

Abortion advocates use this term to place a negative stigma on children. Stigmatizing children helps them market their crime of abortion. Being unplanned is never so by God's intention. Since everyone knows conjugal relations are the way life begins, the term "unplanned" is really irrelevant. Correct terminology is children conceived in undesirable circumstances.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- "Unwanted" children

Honest Vocabulary -- Unaccountable parents

The term "unwanted" also puts children in a negative light. Abortion advocates would have people believe that unborn children are without intrinsic value and only the woman's situation or feelings determine her child's worth. To them, if you are an "unwanted" child you may as well be a dead child.

In reality, wantedness measures the character of the wanter, not the value of the child. Every child deserves love from its parents even if they are unable to give proper care. Remember too, that children who cannot be given care are very much wanted by many adoptive couples. For those participating in procreative acts the only question is whether they will be accountable or unaccountable parents when life is conceived.

Deceptive Vocabulary -- Vegetative State

Honest Vocabulary -- Comatose

Pro-death advocates use this term to dehumanize those who cannot protect themselves. When describing a person in a coma we are not talking about a vegetable, but a person. Like the word fetus for the unborn child, the word vegetable is used to devalue the comatose person in public thought. A comatose person is a human being, not a vegetable. The correct term is person in a coma.

Finally, to many, perception is reality and no one more than today's media creates the perception that killing is a human right. Hitler was honest about one thing:

Tell a lie often enough and people will believe it. Mein Kampf

Today, the BIG LIE is being told for abortion. To end the BIG LIE we must be very aware of the power of words - a power so strong it transforms cultures. When the media disconnects killing from the words it uses, it tries to manipulate people into acceptance of killing. Words like "feminist," "pro-choice," and abortion "rights," are a few of its falsities and pro-lifers mustn't use them. Restoring protection for life means pro-life people must lead the way. Think how quickly the Children's Holocaust would end if it were perceived as killing children instead of as a human "right." Leading the way means using honest semantics.

The following is Pope John Paul's exhortation to us:

In the proclamation of this Gospel we must not fear hostility or unpopularity, and we must refuse any compromise or ambiguity which might conform us to the world's way of thinking (cf. Rom. 12:2). We must be in the world but not of the world (cf. Jn. 15:19; 17:16, drawing our strength from Christ, who by his death and resurrection has overcome the world (cf Jn. 16:33). The Gospel of Life: #82

There is much work ahead. Let's begin.
