Escalation in the Middle East

Dear Jerome,

We are writing to you with deep concern as the humanitarian situation in the Middle East continues to deteriorate at an alarming pace.

In recent days, violence has sharply increased following military strikes and this escalation has had devastating humanitarian consequences across the whole region.

The impact has been immediate and severe in Lebanon, which is suffering a prolonged humanitarian crises, due to ongoing conflict, large-scale displacement, the collapse of basic services, and worsening food insecurity. Now projections indicate that the number of internally displaced persons is likely to exceed one million.

Caritas Lebanon has an extensive presence across the country, including 37 social centers and over 30 additional centers in education, healthcare, safe shelter, and community development. We share with you a note received from the Secretary General, Judge Dany Chebly, and the President, Fr. Samir Ghaowi, of Caritas Lebanon, calling for solidarity, in order to be able to immediately mobilize large-scale assistance:

"Thousands of civilians have been forced to flee their homes, essential services are disrupted, and many communities are cut off from basic assistance. The resulting fear, trauma, and uncertainty have a deep impact; not only physically on affected families, but psychologically across entire communities already strained by years of economic hardship and instability. The risk of further displacement, shortages of food, water, shelter, and medical care is very real if hostilities continue or broaden. The situation is rendered even more critical by the significant reduction in humanitarian funding over the past year."

Caritas Lebanon has deployed in South Lebanon medical mobile clinics, providing free medical services to affected families and is supplying food, mattresses, and blankets.

We are asking for your support and prayers to continue this life-saving wok.

Thank you.
