Pope John Paul 11 and Pope Benedict XVI Give the Lead on Life

In his requiem speech for Pope John Paul II, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI, emphasised that Pope John Paul II wanted peace and love; these aims emphasized the need for the control of Fascism, Communism and Capitalism.

Truth and Love

The Natural Law is inherent in true NFP, and therefore it is for everybody, whatever their circumstances or their starting point. We must not be selective or exclusive of those we teach, but teach everybody - teaching them how to teach with love. This is the inspiration of John Paul II. We owe this fidelity to this teaching

China Project Report

Up to date the method is being used by more than 3,645,600 fertile couples for avoiding pregnancy. The overall success rate is around 99%. Of 48,267 sub-fertile couples 15,640 have already conceived using the BOM. The Government wishes every couple to have a child and more than one in certain circumstances, for example, the poor minority groups. These figures come from complete records from the centres. As well as that, many more are using the method without centralised records and the BOM is now one of the principle choices of fertility regulation in China.

The Quest

When the couple accepts this gentle discipline they make a magnificent demonstration of their love, the husband for the wife, the wife for the husband, and both together for the children already born and to be born in the future. Each observes the goodness of their decision so that it has the effect of ennobling them both as they perceive what they have done for each other. They are happy to be cooperating with what the Creator has designed in Nature, are at peace with their conscience, and the family is growing in an atmosphere of love, happiness, security and peace which is so appropriate to the rearing of children.

Husbands

It is important that the husband know the current state of the cycle. It should be he who is telling the wife that it is not yet time for intercourse. By doing this, he is telling her that his love for her body is the product of his love for her.

The Couple's Hypofertility

The natural family planning is all about love of God, thanksgiving for his gift of fertility, love between husbands and wives, love for the child and ultimately the gifts of the Holy Spirit moving from the security and stability of happy families into society, those gifts of Charity, Joy and Peace.

The Beginning of a Human Life

Even though these events are not yet completely understood, the fact remains that in the initial cell (the zygote) formed by the joining of the gametes (syngamy) from the first moment of fusion of the sperm and egg, one or more unique lives have begun. To prevent the destiny of the totipotent cell at its inception, is to destroy one life or the two or more lives determined from the beginning.

Natural Family Planning and the Conjugal Relationship

When man and woman acknowledge the Creator in His first meeting with man, and acceptance of His infinite love pervades every marriage unrestricted by perverse will, they can accept the gifts of this Providence, one of which is new life, and respond to the trust and privileges given. Then they come to experience the joy of their love for each other and for their children in all its fullness and richness.

A Question of Conscience

The primacy of conscience is not a teaching of the Catholic Church. What is the teaching of the Church is the primacy of truth. Conscience is not the master, it is the pupil that needs to be trained.

Reason and Religion in Family Planning

We need to have a deep understanding of that special kind of love that we call conjugal love. This is the unique love which develops between a man and a woman to the extent that they wish to give themselves to each other in an indissoluble relationship as long as they live. The family they form is the fundamental unit of society and the sexual relationship is intended by the Creator to provide the extraordinary privilege of helping to create new human life, individuals who have the destiny to live in God's family throughout eternity.

The Family as the Cradle of Education

The bigger the family, the more one learns. As each new child comes into the family the baby works a great change on the other members, particularly the other children. They immediately realize the importance of the baby, what care it needs, what priorities it takes, what demands it makes and how swiftly they are met. Everyone loves the baby, who is teaching them so much about unselfishness, responsibility and love, of needing to pay attention, listen and communicate at all levels.

The Dignity of the Dying Person

The real and unchanging dignity of man is determined not by health, appearance, capability or age but by the fact that it was conferred at conception by an act of love of the Creator of Infinite Love.

Womanhood

Physically a woman is specially endowed to conceive, to give binh and nunure a child. She is emotionally endowed to love with a special love and bring the child to maturity both physically and spiritually. As well, as pan of her feminine endowment, a woman has physical powers of attraction to a man and qualities of attractiveness to him which culminate in a physical relationship which results in the binh of their child. These physical components of her femininity are fused undeniably with her feminine nature which instinctively accepts the child and the protective role. In order to fulfil this role she seeks security, fidelity.

A Story of God's Providence

When taking a long look into the future it is appropriate to begin by reviewing the past. That is what I propose to do, to move quickly through the development, validation and promotion of the Billings Ovulation Method.

A Note on HIV-AIDS

The gentle discipline of the Billings Ovulation Method engenders a remarkable development of the relationship between a couple, because the generous acceptance of a time of waiting without intercourse for the sake of the other person, means that they grow in love for each other and are thus motivated to remain faithful. It is only a natural family planning method that can really promote the sexual responsibility that is necessary to protect individuals and stop the epidemic of HIV/AIDS.
