Dating and Going Steady

Question 15:

My parents have said that they do not want me to have any girifriends until I have finished my studies. Does it mean that I should not go out on dates?

Answer 15:

The probable reason why your parents disapprove of your having a girlfriend is that they are afraid that your relationship with her would be a source of distraction. They have a point there. Many teenagers are not able to handle such relationships in a mature manner.

However, that does not mean that you should not go on dates. To date is to go out with other people for an activity. It is good to mix around with boys and girls of your own age, because this helps to widen your social circle and to develop the social skills you will need in life. Dating does not have to be between one boy and one girl only. When you are in your teens, group dates would be more suitable. It would be easier for you to relax and to enjoy yourself. You would also see how different people behave in similar situations, and this will help you to clarify your ideas of how your dream girl would really be like.
